I was reading through some of the topics and found some discussions I would like to continue, but the topics were a few years old.
I personally prefer (when playing with others or even just by myself) pre deployed maps over the norm, with bases and airports and the such. My friends and I have a relatively short attention span, so we don't want to spend too much time playing the game, even with multitasking by watching a movie. We are very evenly matched, so It just ends up being a stalemate when a few episodes of Kids in the Hall or Remo Williams have gone by or ended.
With Pre-deployed, we cannot build more units to attack each other with, and the maps provided have only about 15 units to work with, so it goes by rather quickly.
Another thing I would like to say- If you know what you're doing and have a few tricks up your sleeve, then the CO you choose to use matter little. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses that, in the end, reflect on the skills of the user.
In example, I was playing Grit, considered by some to be vastly over powered, and my friend was playing with Olaf. I had setup a great defense system around my base with my artillery and rockets. However, 5 turns later, his lone bomber had massacred 2 tanks and an artillery, all by staying one square out of sight and keeping within the range of my rockets. I promptly gave up, as soon after he began to capture my base.
We are equally matched. In another map, I beat him easily after killing his tank. The "weaker/stronger" bonuses only account for a little bit of the equation, and if attacking first, can be nulled.
As we are human, we are not perfect, and we can be fooled by tricks and traps.
This (probably) qualifies as tl;dr, but I was kindof bored.
