Ok everyone, what was your close calls in AW? Meaning you and your opponent were both weakened, but you had a slight disadvantage.

For me, just about 45 minutes before making this post, I had a close call. It was in the mission after the Black Onix in AWDS. Orange Star had lost, Blue Moon was down to an APC, and Green Earth had a tank. Black Hole had an artillery. The disadvantage I had was my only tank was low on fuel and I was to far from my only GE base to heal. If BH's artillery had moved I probably would have lost.

In the end I won, my technique sucked below 70, and I surprisingly got a B. Question

Edit: Mark, no references to your Youtube videos. I have nothing against them, I just want to know if you had any CC outside your videos.

AWDS is definately the more weird out of the others. I know what level you're playing: It's called Dark Ambition, and the Tag-breaking CPUs make it near impossible on either difficulty. For me, I was down to a Stealth, an APC and an Aircraft Carrier. Of course, since BH has like NO FIGHTERS it was easy...but my rank was butchered.

At least you still had a ship, I lost both aircraft carrier and battle ship (due to Winta' Furry). I also envy you for keeping a plain at your aid. I lost my BM bomber due to my 'OMG I'm going to win' attitude. But while I did have my bomber, it made me think how valuable they are. king

PS: If you are wondering about the Winta' Furry, I got that from a video on Youtube called Bob Squad.

lol That series is funny as hell. I love that series. (bunnies)
Anyway my closest moment would be Nearly getting owned by Kanbei but owning him with an hq (SCOP) capture during one of my Reverse Psychology vids. (bunnies)
*wishes he had a super lander* lol

The super lander one is the funniest so far. It reminds me of Powerthirst!

Now, I know this isn't exactly Advance Wars, but it was the greatest close call I have ever had in my days of strategy gaming.

It was an Assault Match on Battalion Wars 2. I forget what the mission was called, but it was basically Xylvania being the invader and Tundran Territories were the defenders. It starts out with me having to defend grounded bombers, and my forces were pretty much made up of infantry and light tanks. Which had to take on artillery pieces, infantry, and either heavy or light tanks (can't remember at the moment.)

So I manage to shave some good time off of the clock (15:00mins for the whole battle) before I lost all the bombers and had to retreat back to my next objective. There I thought I could hold this guy off, but he did something I could not believe, ever! He actually implemented and pulled off an actual tactic known as Blitzkreig! (Lightning War: Used by Nazi Germany during WW2. Which consisted of fast mechanized units shelling and breaking enemy lines before motorcycle infantry and troops swoop in right after to clean up softened resistance.)

This tactic of his had DESTROYED every unit at my disposal! I was in command of an almost dead light tank, and I could barely hold up against him. (I don't know how to counter Blitzkrieg) My second objective by the way, was to protect radar arrays, which had gone up in smoke with my tank.

And now, the last objective, defend the HQ. This is where all hell broke loose, I can't remember how much time I had left on the clock, but I knew I had to make it count! And truly, within those minutes of a last stand, I witnessed in that time, the most epic battle that animated violence could ever grasp! I had decimated his infantry, while he took out all of my armor. Then, his infantry re-spawned (they do that in online mode) and began to tear down the flag of my HQ. (Just two units, the rest were on their way to my flag.) His armor were putting dents in my men, and the flag had to be raised if I wanted to claim victory.

In the end, I had one rifle grunt left that I was in command of. His army was wailing on me as I continued to raise the flag for the third time. And just before I died, time ran out and I won in some last moment miracle!

Why was this a close call? Well, the guy had obliterated my entire army while his was regenerating ten-fold! His grunts were already on the last guy (me) raising the flag that was stopping them from taking over the HQ and earning victory. My units were still regenerating. Normally I'm an excellent commander at this game, but I must pay my respects to the guy who almost robbed me of my fifth victory and gave me my first loss.

Closest call in all of my online gaming years, if I had a camera, I would have recorded it!

Ah yes, Blitzkreig. Did a number on France. People will never know how strategic they can be until they are left with one unit.
